What Counts as a Plumbing Emergency?
Not every plumbing issue needs an emergency call-out. But these situations demand immediate attention to prevent property damage, health risks, or safety hazards:

Burst Pipes
A burst pipe can release hundreds of litres per hour into your home, damaging floors, walls, and ceilings. On the North Shore, many homes built before the 1980s still have copper or galvanised steel pipes prone to corrosion and fatigue failures. If you hear rushing water, see pooling on floors, or notice a sudden drop in water pressure, turn off your water main immediately and call us. Learn more about what causes pipes to burst.

Gas leaks are the most dangerous plumbing emergency. If you smell gas (a rotten egg or sulphur odour), hear hissing near a gas appliance or connection, or your gas detector alarm activates, evacuate your home immediately, avoid switching anything on or off, and call your gas supplier’s emergency line. Once the area is safe, our licensed gas fitters will locate and repair the leak, test the system, and issue a gas compliance certificate.

A severely blocked drain can cause raw sewage to back up into your home through floor drains, toilets, and shower bases. This is both a health hazard and a property damage risk. Sydney’s older clay and earthenware sewer lines — common across the North Shore and Eastern Suburbs — are particularly vulnerable to tree root intrusion and joint displacement, especially after heavy rainfall.

Major Water Leaks
Unlike a dripping tap, a major water leak means water is flowing continuously — from a failed flexi hose under a basin, a cracked pipe joint in the ceiling, or a water main break. Signs include unexplained puddles, water stains spreading on ceilings or walls, a constantly running water meter, or sudden pressure drops. Turn off your water main and call immediately.

Flooding
Whether from a burst pipe, a failed hot water system, heavy stormwater inundation, or an overflowing toilet, flooding requires urgent response. Shut off the water supply if the source is internal, move valuables away from the water, and avoid walking through standing water near electrical outlets. Our team carries submersible pumps and wet vacuums to manage water extraction alongside the repair.

Hot Water System Failures
A hot water system that’s leaking, venting steam, producing discoloured water, or making banging noises may pose a safety risk — particularly gas storage systems with faulty pressure relief valves. If your system is actively leaking or you smell gas near it, treat it as an emergency hot water repair.

An overflowing toilet that won’t stop is more than an inconvenience, it’s a contamination risk. If the shut-off valve behind the toilet doesn’t stop the flow, or if sewage is backing up through the bowl, you need a toilet repair plumber who can diagnose whether it’s a local blockage or a main sewer line issue.

What Happens When You Call
Knowing what to expect reduces anxiety during a stressful situation. Here’s how our emergency call-out process works:
- You call. James, Mitch, or a member of our team answers, not a call centre, not a message bank. We assess your situation over the phone and provide immediate advice on how to minimise damage while we’re on our way.
- We dispatch a local plumber. Because we’re based in Mosman and our team lives across the North Shore, we’re typically on site within 60 minutes for North Shore emergencies and 90 minutes for Eastern Suburbs.
- We assess and quote on the spot. Before any work starts, you get a fixed-price quote, not an hourly estimate. Our $90 inspection fee covers the assessment and is waived if you proceed with the repair. You approve the price before we touch a tool.
- We complete the repair and clean up. Our plumbers use shoe covers and drop cloths to protect your home. Once the repair is done, we clean up thoroughly — you’d never know we were there.
- You receive your invoice and guarantee. All emergency plumbing work is backed by our Lifetime Labour Guarantee. Parts carry the full manufacturer’s warranty. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay on the spot.
Why North Shore & Eastern Suburbs Homes Need a Local Emergency Plumber
- Ageing pipe infrastructure — Many Lower North Shore homes (Mosman, Cremorne, Neutral Bay) were built in the 1920s–1960s with galvanised steel and copper pipes now well past their expected lifespan.
- Sandstone and clay soils — The Hawkesbury sandstone underlying much of the North Shore creates unique drainage challenges. Tree roots aggressively seek moisture through pipe joints in this geology.
- Steep block drainage — Many properties from Mosman to Castlecrag sit on steep slopes where stormwater and sewer lines run at challenging gradients.
- Heritage and strata properties — Art Deco apartment blocks across Neutral Bay, Kirribilli, and North Sydney have shared plumbing stacks where one unit’s emergency becomes the building’s problem.
- Council regulations — Emergency plumbing work in heritage conservation areas (Mosman, Lane Cove, North Sydney councils) may require council notification. We know the local requirements.
