The mortar (pointing) that seals your ridge caps dries out and crumbles over time, especially on older terracotta and concrete tile roofs common across the Lower and Upper North Shore. Once the pointing cracks, water runs directly into your roof cavity every time it rains. We re-bed and re-point ridge caps using flexible pointing compounds that withstand Sydney’s thermal cycling far longer than traditional cement mortar.

Valleys are the highest-volume drainage channels on your roof, and they’re where most leaks originate. On North Shore homes with complex rooflines, particularly Federation houses, Californian bungalows, and multi-gabled designs in suburbs like Mosman, Cremorne, and Neutral Bay, you often have multiple intersecting valleys that accumulate leaf litter and silt. When debris blocks the valley, water backs up and overflows into the roof cavity. We clean, repair, or replace valley irons depending on their condition.

When water can’t drain, it rises and wicks under your tiles or roofing sheets through capillary action, entering the fascia and eaves. Many homeowners don’t realise their “roof leak” is actually a gutter problem. We inspect and clear your entire gutter and downpipe system as part of every roof leak assessment.
