Not All Gutter Guard Is the Same

Most people compare gutter guard on brand and price. Neither is what decides whether it works. The hole size in the mesh does, and it needs to match the trees on your block. Get that wrong and you’ve either paid for something leaves fall straight through, or something that sheets water off the roof in the first proper downpour.

Every gutter cleared, every downpipe flushed and tested, and the debris bagged and taken away before a single piece of mesh goes on. There is no point sealing a gutter full of muck under a guard. Correctly installed gutter guard does not void a roof warranty or damage a roof. The risk comes from generic fixing methods that screw through metal roof pans or drill into tiles, which creates penetrations the roof was never designed to have. North East Plumbing uses the saddle and clip system engineered for each specific roof profile, so there are no fixings through roof sheets and no drilling into tiles. If your roof is still under a manufacturer’s warranty, tell us at the quote and we will confirm the fixing method in writing.

Gutter guard dramatically reduces gutter cleaning but does not eliminate maintenance entirely. Leaves and seed pods sit on top of the mesh and mostly blow or wash off on their own, though a periodic check keeps the system performing at its best, particularly on heavily shaded roofs under large gums. Most product warranties also require an inspection at set intervals to remain valid.

Yes, when the aperture is matched correctly to the property. A mesh that is too fine blinds over with dust and pollen and sends water sheeting past the front of the gutter in a downpour, which is the most common complaint about poorly specified gutter guard. Sizing the mesh to the debris around the property, and setting it on the correct fall from roof edge to gutter lip, is what keeps a system flowing through a Sydney summer storm.

Gutter guard is fitted to your existing guttering in most cases. If the gutters are rusted through, sagging or falling short of the roof edge, guard fitted over the top only hides the problem.
